MAKU TJUKURPA
SANDRA PUMANI
Hand Painted Canvas
These works topographically depict the country, song lines, the hills and special culturally significant locations for women in Mimili. ‘This site is connected to ancestor sisters who sang traditional songs (inma) and hit the ground with sticks and many witchetty grubs (maku) came from the ground’.
Creek beds run through each work as a signature of Pumani’s work with three styles of painting imbedded, honouring her well recognised mother and grandmother’s artwork.
